Rug Care & Maintenance Guidelines

Shedding

Shedding is normal for newly handcrafted rugs, especially during the initial weeks after trimming. This is a natural process and will gradually reduce over time.

Cleaning & Washing

Avoid machine washing or washing the rug at home, as this may compromise the wool fibers and damage the backing. If deep cleaning is required, we recommend sending the rug to professional carpet cleaners who are experienced in handling handcrafted rugs. This should only be done when absolutely necessary.

Routine Care

  • Vacuum the rug lightly once or twice a week. During the first two weeks, gentle and regular vacuuming helps manage loose fibers from fresh trimming.
  • To control shedding, use a lint roller or a vacuum with a low-suction setting.
  • Avoid aggressive or direct exposure to sunlight, as prolonged sun exposure may cause fading and reduce the rug’s lifespan.
  • Rotate the rug periodically to ensure even wear and consistent aging.

Stain Management

Do not use sharp or abrasive tools for scrubbing. Always adopt a gentle cleaning approach.

If spills occur, immediately blot (do not rub) the affected area with a clean cloth. For stubborn stains, professional assistance from a specialized carpet cleaner is recommended.

Creases & Flattening

When delivered, your rug may show creases due to folding during shipping. These creases will naturally settle with use. To speed up the process, gently roll the rug in the opposite direction of the fold and allow it to lie flat for some time.

Color Variation

As each rug is handmade, slight variations in shade and texture are natural. Colors may appear more vibrant when the rug is first laid and will settle within 24 hours. Minor differences between samples and finished rugs are part of the handcrafted process and add to the uniqueness of each piece.

Furniture Protection

Use rubber or silicone protectors under furniture legs placed on the rug to prevent dents, damage, or uneven wear.

Tips for Safe Rug Storage

  • Before storing, ensure the rug is clean and completely dry.
  • Wrap the rug in breathable cotton fabric rather than plastic to prevent moisture buildup.
  • Store the rug with the front side facing inward to protect the fibers.
  • Keep the rug in a cool, dry area with good air circulation.
  • Regularly inspect the storage space to prevent pests or insect damage.

Avoid placing heavy objects on the stored rug, as this may cause permanent creasing or fiber damage.
